Frankly, this next week looks pretty nice by me, all things considered! No more blistering heat, some nice clear days, and some generous rain predictions. Now, let’s see if it comes true or if we just get more heat! (Weather from Accuweather, commentary is my own).

🔍Who is Fuquay-Varina?🔎

The same five questions with someone from around the town who helps make Fuquay-Varina what it is today.

This Week: Bob Wehle

Tell us a bit about yourself, including, how long have you been in Fuquay-Varina, and what first brought you here?

I am a retired Financial Planner. I spent 40 years of my life helping others accumulate wealth and plan for their retirement.  Now I am enjoying my retirement here in Fuquay Varina.  My wife and I moved here to be close family and our little grandson.

What’s one local place, event, or activity you think deserves more love?

One of my favorite places to enjoy good Italian food and especially the pizza is J&S New York Pizza right here in the Varina part of Fuquay. The Sicilian pizza is fantastic.

If you had a free afternoon in Fuquay-Varina, how would you spend it?

I do enjoy bass fishing and there is nothing like spending an afternoon of fishing at Bass Lake as well as enjoy everything Bass Lake offers.

What’s something about Fuquay-Varina you didn’t fully appreciate at first - but do now?

One thing that I have come to appreciate is how nice and welcoming the people are here. I have lived in 5 States and by far I feel the most at home here.

What would you tell someone who just moved here last month?

If I were to run into anyone who just moved here I would share with them some  of my favorite places like Stick Boy Bread Co. or The Mill Coffee Shop and Pub where my meet-up Chess Club meets to play chess while also enjoying a cold beer on a Monday night. (Editor’s note: See the “Chess Nutz Club” above!)

Ponds and waterways abound throughout Fuquay-Varina. (Image props to Guidesly.com)

FV Trivia Answer: Her name was Virginia Avery and while the two did not know each other before one of her letters of encouragement ended up in his hands, their continuing correspondence has since become legendary (at least around here!).

Till next week!
