Water Disinfection Process
If you’ve been around for awhile, you’ll know that there’s a period of time in the spring when the water tastes different. That’s a good thing as its a stated mandated disinfection process designed to clear out sediments and build up in our water.
The process involves suspending use of ammonia from Feb 26 through April 15 and flushing the system. You may notice the water tastes different or even looks different but it remains safe to drink, per those who know more than I!

🔍 Who is Fuquay-Varina?
Five questions with someone who helps make Fuquay-Varina what it is today.
This Week: Jenn DeCesari
Tell us a bit about yourself, including, how long have you been in Fuquay-Varina, and what first brought you here?
My family moved here in 2019 after living in Cary for 8 years. We needed a 6 bedroom house and found the perfect fit in Fuquay-Varina.
What’s one local place, event, or activity you think deserves more love?
Oh there are so many but there isn’t any one place that is accessible for as many people as are in town now. My family would love to see the Fourth of July fireworks but getting there is awful with traffic and parking. Same goes for any town sponsored event. We LOVE the Christmas parade but the event was very poorly run this year and we didn’t go.
If you had a free afternoon in Fuquay-Varina, how would you spend it?
I would grab lunch at Nil’s, flowers for my kitchen table from Flowers on Main next door and check out the shops in Varina and Fuquay. I’d then head over to Track Records for coffee and tunes. I’d head over to TJ Maxx and Pop Shelf for some retail therapy and end up at Logan’s Garden Hut to find some pretty flowers and decorations for outside the house! I’d probably pull the kids to Fat Catz or Pints for ice cream and end with some personal time kayaking on Harris Lake!
What’s something about Fuquay-Varina you didn’t fully appreciate at first - but do now?
The school communities. My oldest kids are college age and went to elementary school in Cary. It was technically a top school but didn’t have much community to it. I never knew the other kids or parents yet my younger two are in elementary school and I feel the school does a great job promoting a connection to the community. I’ve seen that in other schools in the community too. We really feel our kids are feeling connected here.
What would you tell someone who just moved here last month?
The lack of infrastructure improvements and traffic is very frustrating, we share that with you! If you look past it you can see how hard the town offices work to keep the town moving forward. Weekly newsletters?! Personal emails if you missed your utility bill?! Town sports directors know your kids name?! There is so much to love about how the folks that make up Fuquay-Varina try to make everyone feel included. I really hope as we get bigger that we don’t lose some of that small town feel because I definitely didn’t feel the connection I feel here when we lived in Cary.
Did You Know? James A Campbell (this week’s park’s namesake) was a devoted Fuquay-Varinian. He taught math and coached basketball and later became Assistant Principal of the new Fuquay-Varina High School. After retiring, he was appointed to the Fuquay-Varina Board of Commissioners where he served the town for four years.
Till next week!
