Hello Fuquay-Varina!
Winter weather has finally arrived in Fuquay-Varina. I hope everyone is safe and able to enjoy the snow (ice makes for great sledding)! The Town has been busy brining roads, preparing trucks, and hoarding salt but still best to stay safe and warm indoors (or outside playing, of course!). Here is a link to see alerts from the town.
It does look like by that early to middle next week the worst should be past us with sunny skies predicted for the end of the week! We’ll see if that stays the same but for now let’s hope for the best!
And, we would also love to feature around-the-town photography every week. Send us your pictures and we’ll share them here!

🌳 Parks + Outdoors
Featured Park: Hilltop Needmore Town Park
More of a very large nature preserve than small town park, Hilltop Needmore has three trails and a wide variety of areas to play and enjoy the outdoors.
Hilltop Needmore Town Park is located at 4621 Shady Greens Drive.
A great place to bring a bike, the trails are long enough to enjoy and find a place to enjoy a picnic.
It also hosts Fuquay-Varina’s newest community center! With tons of amenities and indoor courts, the Hilltop Needmore Town Park Community Center is a great place to get plugged in and stay active.
If these park sections sound like advertisements, its because they are! We have an amazing park system for such a small town.
🚶➡️ Around Town
Winter Storm Fern
Wake County Schools are closed on Monday, Jan 26 due to the ongoing winter storm and a build up of ice. Ice, rain, and potentially snow are due to continue through Monday while temperatures are going to stay low all week. Be careful!
Power Outages
Not to jinx anything (I’m not really superstitious, it’s bad luck), but power outages are relatively low at the moment. Personally, we’re bracing for tonight. If you want to track power outages, here’s a link.
🔍 Who is Fuquay-Varina?
Five questions with someone who helps make Fuquay-Varina what it is today.
This Week: Bettina Walter
Wife, mom, local educator, proud doodle mom, and lover of the slower paced life.
Tell us a bit about yourself, including, how long have you been in Fuquay-Varina, and what first brought you here?
My husband and I relocated to NC from Long Island, New York back in 2013. After we were married in 2016, we decided to build our home in Fuquay Varina after falling in love with the small-town vibe but close proximity to everything you could ever need.
What’s one local place, event, or activity you think deserves more love?
I love that Fuquay Varina values its residents and their families. The two community centers are wonderful ways to participate in the community, but to also try new things.
My friends and I played Pickleball last January through the spring and loved it! This year, I am trying mat Pilates and just signed up for my indoor walking pass at the Hilltop community center. My son also plays youth sports with the town, and he has always had amazing coaches.
If you had a free afternoon in Fuquay-Varina, how would you spend it?
When I have free time, I like to walk to The Mill for an amazing coffee and then around the shops in town.
Recently, a small floral business caught my eye (Bark and Bloom FV), and I’ve made it a point to go to the locations where she leaves her beautiful arrangements. So far, I’ve found them (and purchased them) at Lucci Blue’s and Cultivate.
What’s something about Fuquay-Varina you didn’t fully appreciate at first - but do now?
The farms. Coming from the suburbs of Long Island, I didn’t grow up with many farms right around the corner, but this has become something I truly love and value about FV.
Polly’s Petal Patch has become one of my favorite locations to cut live flowers, shop some local honey, and visit with her adorable farm animals.
What would you tell someone who just moved here last month?
If you’re moving here from up North, give it some time to adjust. When we moved, we knew none of the areas, had no family or friends, and felt alone.
Over the years, I have truly grown to love the community feel and the slower (but not too slow) pace of life. I now have a 7 year old son and I couldn’t imagine ever going back to New York. FV is our home.
Did You Know? The last time Fuquay-Varina (and our surrounding area) experienced an ice storm like we’re experiencing now was 2002. Let’s hope that one remains the worst!
Till next week!
