🌳 Parks + Outdoors

Featured Park: Ashworh Park f.k.a. Library Park
  • Located just down the block from Fuquay’s downtown is one of Fuquay-Varina’s historical gems. Find a small town of historical buildings alongside a real train car!

  • Ashworth Park (formerly Library Park): located at 116 Aiken St.

  • If I’m being honest, I lived in Fuquay-Varina for years, even walked through this park (granted, at night), before I realized all this park contains!

  • The train car is the most central part of the park with a great little playground and plenty of space to run around. Beyond that, wander through Fuquay-Varina’s history with life size buildings and statues.

🔍 Who is Fuquay-Varina?

Five questions with someone who helps make Fuquay-Varina what it is today.

This week: Vicky Burnor, resident and my mother!

How long have you been in Fuquay-Varina, and what first brought you here?

My husband and I moved to Fuquay-Varina almost exactly 3 years ago, on January 8. We moved here so that we could live close to one of our sons (me!) who lives here.

What’s one local place, event, or activity you think deserves more love?

Spring Park in December and January is lit up with white globes in the trees. It is truly a magical place in those months.

If you had a free afternoon in Fuquay-Varina, how would you spend it?

I would take my grandchildren to one of the many parks in Fuquay-Varina. There are several to choose from.

What’s something about Fuquay-Varina you didn’t fully appreciate at first - but do now?

Again, I've been impressed by how many parks are in Fuquay-Varina. Some with playgrounds, since with hiking trails, and some which are just peaceful to sit in and watch the birds and squirrels.

What would you tell someone who just moved here last month?

Check out the two community centers, South Park and Hilltop-Needmore! There are loads to do at both!

Did You Know? The Fuquay Spring Historic District is included on the National Register of Historic Places. A five-block area around the Fuquay Mineral Spring it is included for its association with the development of Fuquay Springs and included examples of early-twentieth century architecture.

Till next week!
