The temperatures have dipped a bit and mornings and evenings have become much more enjoyable (IMHO) but the threat of thunderstorms remains constant. I’m really hoping for a big one to come through and clear out some humidity! Fingers crossed. (Weather from Accuweather, commentary is original).

If you have kids of any school age, then this is late news but school has started for those following the traditional calendar. We just dropped ours off at Lincoln Heights and it is very much a bittersweet moment. Wonderful school! Reminder of the constant progress of time and the end of summer (why does it still get me as an adult? I didn’t get the summer off..).

Be aware of increased traffic in the mornings and around three o’clock around the schools. Watch out for buses and walkers. Here’s to a great new school year!

This is the second to last week that the Grower’s Market will grace our fair town until next year so gather those local, fresh fruits, veggies, and all sorts of vendors while you can! Find the market in the parking lot of the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce this Saturday and next, Sept 5 (it’s last day of the season).

Every year the town publishes a report covering wastewater treatment, sewage management, facilities, and more that affect your drinking water. It’s a very interesting read and you will learn quite a bit. I, for one, learned and now wonder why “Terrible Creek” was chosen as the name for a treatment facility? Every time I read something about it, it seems judgmental.

RecTrac - New Registration System

The Arts Center and Parks and Recreation departments are moving to a new registration system called RecTrac. Accounts on the old system (Activenet) are still usable but they will expire on September 1!

Open Submission - Fuquay Film Festival

The deadline for submissions to the Fuquay Film Festival is fast approaching on August 15th! The late and final deadline is Sept 15. All appropriate genres are accepted and all film makers are welcome to submit. There is even a specific category for high school and college students so don’t hold back!

Celebrate Fuquay-Varina Festival on October 3

Don’t worry, October is still a ways away (though the Spirit store is now open, just FYI), but it’s never too early to start planning good times. The Celebrate festival does just that, celebrates Fuquay-Varina, it’s the town, our history, our growth, and the people! If you’re interested, there are still sponsor and vendor spots available.
