Hello Fuquay-Varina!
How on earth is it May already? I feel like it was just New Year’s. Despite how I feel, the month of flowers is here! There’s more below including celebrating our town museum, gearing up for small business week, live music, and seeing the town through the eyes of our neighbor!
Are you artistic? We’d love to partner with you as we look to feature local photography, artists, and update our logo.

🚶‍➡️ Around Town

Water Restrictions

As of Friday (April 24), the town has joined into Wake County water restrictions. While the little bit of rain we received on Saturday is appreciated, the restrictions are in place until officially lifted. Right now, Stage 1 is focused on diminishing automated use of water that could lead to waste. Check out the details in the link.

Burn Ban

Related to the water restrictions, we remain in drought conditions so the possibility of an uncontrolled fire is high. Wake County is keeping its burn ban in effect and Fuquay-Varina is keeping the same guidelines in place.

🔍 Who is Fuquay-Varina?

Five questions with someone from around the town who helps make Fuquay-Varina what it is today.

This Week: Lakendria Williams

Tell us a bit about yourself, including, how long have you been in Fuquay-Varina, and what first brought you here?

Hey Fuquay, I’m Lakendria Williams, local Realtor, wife, mom, book girlie and PTA volunteer. My family and I have been here in the area since 2018. We are originally from Alabama, (Roll Tide!), and we took a chance on Cary, North Carolina in 2015 after I accepted a job promotion with my previous employer. When we looked at buying a house and planting roots in 2018, we chose the Fuquay area to be closer to my husband’s job after he got hired by Fuquay-Varina Middle School. At first I thought it was legit the country, lol. We had no idea how amazing this area was, but we are so grateful to have landed here. We have built an amazing community here from having our kids in sports through the Town and plugging into our local schools and neighborhood.

What’s one local place, event, or activity you think deserves more love?

I would have to say Wednesday Trivia at Oaklyn Springs does not get nearly enough credit. I always have the best time there and you can bring your own food. They have drink specials and the Trivia is done very well. 10/10 would recommend for your next hang out. Mosey over to Moonlight Lounge after Trivia for a well rounded night cap.

If you had a free afternoon in Fuquay-Varina, how would you spend it?

I would have a family lunch at Nil’s Mediterranean, then get the kids and head to Fleming Loop Park so they can run all their energy out. Then, I would grab a pizza for them from Assagios for dinner and end the evening with dinner and drinks at The Library for a non hang out with friends.

What’s something about Fuquay-Varina you didn’t fully appreciate at first - but do now?

I thought it was this super small town in the middle of nowhere, but I was so pleased to see how much we have here. All the local businesses we love to visit nearby, the fun community events the town puts on, and the community feel is still there without it feeling so small.

What would you tell someone who just moved here last month?

If you join the local Facebook groups, Buckle up buttercup. Lol! Seriously though, I would tell them to visit the parks and go to the community events, and they’ll meet some amazing and welcoming people in our town.

Did You Know? Fuquay-Varina established its complex of museums at Ashworth Park in 2009 to celebrate the town’s centennial birthday (granted the town officially merged into one town in 1963.

Till next week!
