Hello Fuquay-Varina!
Reminder to file your taxes (or an extension) by this Wednesday but also a reminder that there are blue skies beyond that day! One of my favorite events is happing this week in Varina - a Food Truck Rodeo! Prepare for long lines but loads of amazing food. Some advice? Portion control and a cooler for leftovers. You’re welcome.
Are you artistic? We’d love to partner with you as we look to feature local photography, artists, and update our logo.

🔎Who is Fuquay-Varina?

Five questions with someone from around the town who helps make Fuquay-Varina what it is today.

This Week: Alanna

Tell us a bit about yourself, including, how long have you been in Fuquay-Varina, and what first brought you here?

I’ve been in FV for about a year now. I’m originally from New Jersey, but for the three years before moving here I was living as a digital nomad — traveling full time and working remotely from wherever I landed. I moved to Fuquay-Varina to be closer to family, and it’s been a really different (in the best way) chapter after years of never staying put.

What’s one local place, event, or activity you think deserves more love?

RDU [Raleigh-Durham Airport]. I know that’s not a typical answer, but hear me out, I travel a lot, and having an airport this accessible and easy to navigate has genuinely shaped how much I love living here. Security is quick, the flight options are broader than people expect, and it punches well above its weight for a smaller airport. For someone who still has the nomad itch, it’s a big deal.

If you had a free afternoon in Fuquay-Varina, how would you spend it?

Trying the new Deli on Main Street for lunch, then wandering into whatever bar or restaurant I haven’t tried yet. I’m always on the hunt for a good new spot, and FV keeps adding them!

What’s something about Fuquay-Varina you didn’t fully appreciate at first - but do now?

How grounded it feels. After three years of constant movement, I didn’t totally realize how much I needed a place with real roots. FV has a community that actually knows itself, people are proud of it here, and that energy is contagious.

What would you tell someone who just moved here last month?

Don’t wait to feel “settled” before you start exploring. Go find your restaurant, your bar, your Sunday spot. Fuquay-Varina has more going on than it looks like from the outside, and the best way to make it home is to just start treating it like it already is.

Did You Know? Fuquay-Varina sits on the line between the North American Piedmont (small hills leading to the Appalachian mountains) and the Atlantic Coastal Plain. We’re at the "fall line” right about the point that waterfalls begin to appear in waterways.

Till next week!
